How to Raise Chickens in the City

Chickens are useful to retain and they are fun. The hens provide eggs and raising chickens will give you enjoy and fun hobby. Raising chickens requires planning and a little bit of effort. To raise your chickens, you should set up their habitat at your backyard with run, coop and other necessary equipment. 1. Dealing with City Issues

 

A. Check the City Ordinance

C. You must provide a place where they stay or a roost.

A roost must 2 feet or 0.61m from the ground. You must use an extensive plank or a bar of wood to build a roost.

D. Add nesting box per each hen.

  • You must avoid pairing roosters and hens in a city. Because of limited space, you don’t like your hens placing fertilized eggs. It’s best to use egg for food only.

 

E. Create space for water and food.

You need to expanse for chickens’ to drink and to eat in their house or coop. You can buy at online a chicken feeder or at a hardware store. You can hang or stand the feeder in their coop. You must have another alike container to grasp water.

 

3. Give Care to your Chickens

A. Provide sufficient chicken food.

C. Feed them leftover food.

You must also add-on a diet of chickens with bench scraps. These provide plenty of minerals and vitamins that are essential for the health of your chickens. Scraps vegetables, grains, and fruits are abundant for the health of your chickens.

  • Most table leftover or scraps are harmless for your chicken, there are definite foods you must not nourish your chickens. Don’t feed your chickens: rotting food, raw potatoes, peanuts, chocolate, dried beans, avocados, eggplant, junk food (candies, chips, etc.), tomatoes, peppers, or raw meat.

 

D. Provide water.

You should provide a water container and make it free and full of debris every time you will check your chickens.

Add extra water as necessary or replace the water that has been contaminated. Chickens commonly drink water up to 350–590 ml (1.5–2.5 cups) per day.

 

E. Select a water container that is easy to disinfect and remove.

The water in the city is easy to be contaminated, so always clean and check the containers regularly.

 

F. Regularly remove the eggs.

You must check the nests every single night for eggs. If the hens are cackling so loud overnight, sign that they are placing eggs. Remove or eliminate the eggs in the morning. If there are broken eggs, you must remove the yolk and shells.

  • You must wash the eggs. You can clean eggs with a waterless cloth, however, if you notice some manure utilize a wet fabric to clean the eggs.
  • You must let eggs dry before keeping them in containers.
